I have a client who has been divorced in England, has returned to Russia to live and now wishes to remarry there. I understand that an apostille is required. I shall be grateful if you would please confirm if this is correct and if so whether it is just the decree absolute document (which finally dissolves the marriage in the UK) which needs an apostille or if there are any other documents necessary to enable my client to remarry in Russia. Yes, because the UK signed the Hague Convention from October 05, 1961, the document (divorce certificate) confirming that the marriage of your client was dissolved, needs apostille. \n In Russia this final document with apostille shall be translated into Russian and correction of this translation shall be notary certified. Then this document becomes legal in Russia. \nI suppose that in addition to the divorce certificate, for new marriage your client has to have a reference document about he/she is not married at the moment. And also a notary translation of his/her passport into Russian is required in case he/she is not a Russian citizen.
