I’m looking for an expert on Russian law to speak to me for 5 minutes – it seems that a death metal band called Cannibal Corpse are about to tour Russia, in spite of warnings from Orthodox activist groups about the tour being a contravention of blasphemy laws.
I’d like to speak to an expert on what Russia’s response will be – will it throw the band in prison, as it did Pussy Riot?
I’d basically like you to answer the following two questions:
1. Will Putin throw Cannibal Corpse in jail, or will he resist this option?
2. What will be the main considerations behind his decision?
In my professional opinion I feel if Cannibal Corpse have been invited to perform in Russia, so long as they do not break any laws I feel they will have no problem.
By this mean for example by breaking in to the church and singing songs, as Pussy Riot did. Cannibal Corpse should make sure they are performing in the appropriate places, time, and conditions to be safe. Make sure all paperwork like visas, passports, immigration cards, registrations, etc. are in order.
Just remember Russian people may be upset at Americans for what is happening in Ukraine. Some people feel that this is America’s fault.
