Divorce isn't such a tragedy. A tragedy's staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce.

Question

I'm an American. I'm married to a Russian citizen two years ago. I’ve been asked to go twice to notary to sign a document for renting his property, as they told since we’ve got married he’ll always need my signature for any renting/selling properties.

Answer

For the disposition of property owned by each spouse before the marriage, does not require the consent of the other spouse, because the property acquired before marriage is personal property of each spouse.

For the disposition of property acquired during the marriage, the spouse’s consent is usually required, but not always. If you are interested in the possibility of disposition of specific property, please send me copies of the documents on this property, and copy of marriage certificate also.

In addition, the lease or sale agreement does not require notarization. You do not need husband’s permission at all if you want to rent out property, what registered for your name only.
